UK Arabian Racing – Heritage Arabian Racing Club

HARC
The purpose of the Heritage Arabian Racing Club (HARC) is to support and promote racing for those who wish to preserve the purebred Arabian of traditional type and bloodlines and to ensure the long-term future of the Arabian horses characteristics, in the broadest terms, with the hallmarks of beauty, athletic ability, soundness and versatility. HARC aims to encourage the breeding and racing of Arabians as part of a selection test as has been carried out traditionally in various countries over centuries to preserve the breeds distinctive characteristics and qualities equally with speed. ARO is fully supportive of HARC’s objective and supports the breeding and racing of Arabians of traditional bloodlines and type.

UK Arabian Racing Organised by ARO supporting the HARC initiative in 2019

In 2019 ARO is running a series of races to promote HARC breeding and racing of Arabians thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Heritage Arabian Racing Club (HARC), however, as a result of the equine flu epidemic in the UK, other economic factors and also the absence of HARC races in 2018, a small number of pure HARC horses have been registered to date.  As a result of these factors and in order to continue to support and promote the HARC ideals of breeding Arabian racehorses using HARC blood, ARO has widened the scope to include Arabians with HARC blood 50% or more, this has created a pool of 20 UK Arabian horses (out of a total UK Arabian racing population of 103) and 3 HARC championship groups for the 2019 which has successfully generated enthusiasm, energy and interest amongst the Arabian racing participants and further emphasises the  importance of these HARC bloodlines. It also demonstrates that in the UK 20% of the Arabian racehorses carry 50% or more HARC bloodlines.

HARC Sponsored Races in UK organised by ARO
ARO are running 7 open Arabian handicap races that all emphasise stamina in line with the HARC and Arabian talents of longer distance racing, these races all are open medium/low rated handicaps to ensure a competitive edge to the racing and add value to the results. Within each race there is a cash prize fund for the best performing HARC horse  (1st, 2nd and 3rd) , so within each open race there is a HARC race; a similar model successfully run in Belgium for the last few years.

ARO is running an overall championship for the top performing HARC horse based on wins and places, and will also award a prize to the top performing HARC horse in each category of ABC. At the end of the UK race season there will also be a long distance HARC Handicap Championship race to further celebrate and emphasise the value of these HARC bloodlines.
