EXHIBITION ON THE CENTENARY OF THE ARAB HORSE SOCIETY NATIONAL HERITAGE CENTRE FOR HORSERACING & SPORTING ART AT PALACE HOUSE NEWMARKET

22nd March 2018 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Arabian Horse: From the Desert to the World, is a compelling new exhibition at Palace House Newmarket that will present a rich selection of key works to mark this memorable anniversary and to celebrate the history of the world’s oldest horse breed. The exhibition opens on Thursday 22 March until Friday 13 July 2018.

Brought together for the first time on public display will be the first mapped genome of an Arab horse, ‘Sambist’, together with paintings, prints and artefacts all from the untapped archives of The Arab Horse Society.

The exhibition will tell the story of the Arab horse from its earliest Bedouin origins to the present day, exploring, in particular, the fascinating story of the arrival of the Arab horse in Britain. In the 19th century, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt and his wife Lady Anne scoured the Middle East to import Arab horses to their stud at Crabbet Park and therefore played a vital role in the success of the breed. Their story and the activities of The Arab Horse Society are presented in the exhibition through a compelling series of objects.

Anne Brown of the Arab Horse Society said,

We are delighted that this exhibition is being held at Palace House Newmarket in the heart of the racing industry as Arabs are the ancestors of all English Thoroughbreds. It is a fitting place to showcase this noble breed and to celebrate the Centenary of The Arab Horse Society.”

This exhibition is generously sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, of Shadwell Stud, and supported by Racetech. The exhibition has been designed and curated by The Company Curator.

Complementing the exhibition will be two parades of Arabian horses in the Peter O’Sullevan Arena on Saturday 7 April at 3pm and Saturday 28 April at 2.30pm.
