The Arabian Racing Organisation (ARO) was delighted for their Official Photographer and Media Executive, Debbie Burt, who was presented with the Best Lady Photographer Award by Santa Anita Park Chairman, Keith Brackpool at the dazzling awards show on Friday. The HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, along with the Arabian Racing Cup Stewards, celebrated the achievements of women in Arabian racing alongside the domestic awards for the US 2016 racing season at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, home to the Oscars. Three of the UK’s Arabian Racing Organisation nominees had been shortlisted for the event, Burt (also nominated for Journalism), Joanna Mason (Amateur Jockey) and defending title holder, Laura King (TV Presenter).
Burt thanked ARO, Lara Sawaya and the HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival for their support adding “This initiative from HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak championing women in Arabian racing is a great addition to the calendar and it was my initial nomination that encouraged me to progress my photography from amateur to professional level. As well as my own magazine, I now write and supply pictures for numerous publications around the world, covering both Arabian and Thoroughbred racing. It is an honour to represent the UK in these prestigious awards and I hope that my work will continue to promote Arabian racing globally.”
Genny Haynes, ARO Director commented:”Debbie’s award is well deserved as she has supported ARO since 2012. Her photographs really capture the essence of the sport and are a huge asset in promoting Arabian racing, particularly in the UK.”
She continued: “ARO is very proud of the record UK participants have at this global event and we thank Lara Sawaya, HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak and HH Sheikh Mansoor for their continued sponsorship of Arabian racing in the UK and around the world.”
