2010 Season Raceday Previews
Preview - Salisbury, Sunday 5th September
by Paul Simmons 1st race - Maiden over 8 Furlongs (3yrs older and over): The Royal Cavalry of Oman’s smart performer Hajes is the selection here, he was an impressive second to Karte D’Or in the Oman Final Premier Handicap and runner up to El Adjban over a mile at Huntingdon the week before. He has been running consistently well in defeat but is still chasing that elusive win, he looks capable of righting that situation here and to open his account for the season. Louran looked pretty impressive on her racecourse debut when 3rd to El Adjban and she is sure to have come on for the run; she has place claims here. Whilst No Frylls seems to be suffering from seconditis, 2nd to Laqataat over 7 furlongs, then 2nd to Al Hasem over this trip and again runner up to Ghallab at Market Rasen last week over 10 furlongs and again looks sure to land a place. 2nd race - Handicap 0-55 over 6 Furlongs: Millenium Leap won well at Huntingdon over 7 furlongs where she beat subsequent winner Senor Dublcheck and El Buba, she was also a good second to Golden Dream over 6 furlongs and 3rd to Trip to Khairo last week over 9 furlongs. This trip looks ideal and she has won over this distance; she could make this her second win of the season. Mahbishai has been luckless to date but finally lost his maiden tag at Market Rasen over a mile from Raihan, he was third in this race last year and should be fighting out the finish. However Golden Dream showed plenty of speed when winning over 6 furlongs at Huntingdon and will appreciate the trip and track; he could also go close. 3rd race - Handicap 0-90 over 7 Furlongs: El Adjban won with plenty of authority in a competitive handicap over 8 furlongs at Huntingdon, he has plenty of speed in his pedigree and gets 5 lb from top weight this time; he looks set to take this race en route to better races. Al Hasem won his maiden over this trip and followed up again at Huntingdon over a mile; he is capable of being competitive at the finish in this race and could make it a treble. Whilst Hidalgo won over this trip at Wolverhampton where he beat Wathiq and subsequent winner Whisper, he then ran a blinder to finish 2nd to Zayin Barakaldo in a 6 furlong Premier handicap at Kempton Park, he will appreciate the cut in the ground and has strong place claims. 4th race - Handicap 0-80 over 8 Furlongs: The selection is No Frylls who seems to be suffering from bridesmaid syndrome: 2nd to Laqataat over 7 furlongs, then 2nd to Al Hasem over this trip and again runner up to Ghallab at Market Rasen last week over 10 furlong, however, she could be set to open her account here. Ambrose seemed to be on the comeback when 2nd to Maghazi over 7 furlongs at Market Rasen and could take a hand in the finish here if he sticks to that form. Pacific Way is in the superb form this season, she won over 2 miles at Hereford and then finished ¾ length second to Flashcat over 9 furlongs; this trip might be a touch on the sharp side but she is getting 8 lb from top weight and can make it count. 5th race - Open (PA) Handicap over 1 Mile 6 Furlongs: Theoretically won 3 of his races in the USA last year including the Grade 2 Bob Magness Derby and has been running with credit in the Group 1 events in Europe, he ran the race of his life when third under top weight in the Jebel Ali Stayers handicap over 1 Mile 5 furlongs; this could be his first win in a UK race. Moshahed won over 1 mile 4 furlongs at Hereford where he beat Qareim De Faust, he was then 2nd to stablemate Takaamul in the stayers on Dubai Day and 2nd to Kalikeauba at Market Rasen over 12 furlongs latest and should be in the shake up. Mu’Azzaz looked like a very reluctant winner of the 10 furlongs conditions race on Dubai Day but is clearly talented and should be feared if he stays this trip. 6th race - Conditions (PA) over 1 Mile: Aziz has won twice in Qatar this season and looked very impressive when 2nd to Raqiyah in the Group 1 President of the UAE Cup UK Derby at Ascot over 10 furlongs. He looks to be a class act and can win this event on his way to possible group glory in Europe. Genuinely At Risk for the Bill Smith yard looked smart last term winning twice over 7 furlongs and 10 furlongs where he beat Breeders Cup winner Tidarbret (won twice since). This season, he won well on his debut at Wolverhampton over 8 furlongs (beating Mi Temps De Piboul and Noble Athlete) before coming third to Karte D’Or in the Oman Final at Newbury. Tidarbret is a course a distance winner after winning the Breeders Cup here last year and has won twice this term before chasing home Mu’Azzaz on Dubai Day. Whilst Karte D’Or has won twice over this trip at Fakenham where she beat Joybell and in the Oman Final at Newbury where she beat Hajes. 7th race - Open (TB & AA) Handicap over 6 Furlongs: Spirit Rising won in fine style from Annie Moyles at Hereford over 8 furlongs last month and this drop in trip should suit as he has plenty of speed and could score again here. Megabond won over course and distance last term and has been running well in defeat this season including when 3rd at Wolverhampton over a mile: trip and track are both ideal. Whilst Red Myth won well at Huntingdon over 7 furlongs in May where she beat subsequent winners Mandy’s Maestro and Mattoni.

2010 Season Raceday Reviews Hereford Review
coming soon. Review - Hereford, 21st August 2010 by Paul Simmons 1st race - The Hereford Hop Handicap 0-85 over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs A popular win here for consistent handicapper Deolali (Khairouan x Operetta (Silver Scenario)) who was winning the 6th race of his career on his 50th start with ARO for owner/trainer Adam Newey. He was held up with a run under a well judged ride from Tom Garner and tracked long time leader Majaales into the home straight before powering clear inside the final furlong to win by an easy two lengths. Speaking afterwards winning trainer Newey said “I thought he would run well as he likes soft ground but I am surprised he won so well”. Karline (Karmah x Elina Des Fabries) ran well on his debut, he was held up in second before making smooth progress inside the home straight to challenge inside the final two furlongs but couldn’t catch the winner. Whilst Majaales (Chndaka x Seglaoui) cut out a decent pace at the front, he was one paced in the closing stages and stayed on well for third ahead of Gazal. 2nd race - The Royal Cavalry of Oman Novice Rider Handicap Stakes 0-70 over 1 Mile 1 Furlong This was the second impressive win for the smart and progressive colt Flashcat (Concord x Edjalie (Bengali D’Albret)), under an excellent ride from Theresa Gavin. He was settled in second throughout and cruised into the lead inside the final furlong to win by just under a length for owner/trainer and breeder Glen Kiff; he looks firmly on the upgrade. Pacific Way (Way To Go x Bacifica) ran another game race in second, she travelled well, and continued to run on under pressure in the closing stages but couldn’t reel the winner in: she remains in good form. Billoube (Bengali D’Albret x Billou Al Maury) bravely tried to make all and stayed on well in the closing stages but lost second close to home. 3rd race - The Lovetheraces.com Open (TB/AA) Handicap 0-180 over 1 Mile Mandy’s Maestro made a bold bid for a follow up victory here and cut out a decent pace, but Spirit Rising (Zilzal x River’s Rising) was always cruising in behind. He went into a strong lead three furlongs out under a great ride from Mr George Bartlett and powered clear to win for the first time by a comfortable two lengths for owner Raymond Harries and trainer Richard Spate. Annie Moyles ran a promising race back in second , she made good progress in the home straight and chased the winner inside the final furlong but was never closer. Whilst Global Achiever was well beaten nine lengths back in third and looked tapped for toe in the final furlong but stayed on ahead of Extra Cover. 4th race - The Athbah Stud Handicap 0-60 Stakes over 7 Furlongs An impressive double here for owner/trainer and breeder Glen Kiff as his smart filly Katwalk (Makzan x CS Shamal (Bengali D’Albret)) lost her maiden tag in fine style under a well judged and confident ride from Steve Harrison. She was always prominent and although outpaced at the half way stage, she came with a strong burst inside the final two furlongs and quickened away to pass Wikkara and Unshooda, scoring by half a length. Wikkara (The Wiking x Akara De Syrah) was held up with a run and made smooth headway inside the straight, stealing second close home but was held by the winner. Unshooda (Makzan x Shunah) looked the winner two furlongs out as she came with a confident run but was collared by the first two inside the final furlong and had to settle for third just ahead of Star Valentina. 5th race - The Come Racing With ARO Stakes over 7 Furlongs A second career win here for Laqataat (Bengali D’Albret x Qosheeya) who made short work of the opposition here under a supremely confident ride from Phil Collington. She always looked in control and showed a useful turn of foot inside the final furlong to pull clear of the field and win easily by three lengths for owner/breeder HH Sheikh Hamdan and trainer Gill Duffield. The Royal Cavalry of Oman’s Wathiq (Nenuphar Al Maury x Tawam) ran on well in the closing stages to take second inside the final two furlongs but was always being held by the winner, whilst stablemate Kerbelle Lotoise (Kerbella x Dheila Lotoise) struggled to go the pace inside the straight, nonetheless she was kept up to her work and held onto third, well clear of Roudd To Man. 6th race - The Kelanne Stud Classified Stakes 0-45 over 1 Mile 1 Furlong A first win of the campaign for the Jenny Peyton owned and trained mare Trip To Khairo (Khairouan x Tikis Trip) , she was always in contention and powered clear inside the final two furlongs with Shamal close by. However, Trip To Khairo showed a useful turn of foot inside the final furlong and went clear by four lengths under a great ride from Rob Woollard. Shamal (Sun Al Maury x Zak Zak) put in a career best performance for owner/trainer/breeder and jockey Paul Brown, he was at the rear of the field but swept through them inside the final four furlongs to take third before battling it out for victory in the closing stages; his turn looks near. Millenium Leap (Khairouan x Balla Star) ran another consistent race back in third, she chased the first two inside the final two furlongs and was gaining with every stride at the line but had to settle for third. 7th race - The Red Mills Horse Feeds Open (TB/AA) Handicap over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs This was another addition to the winning campaign for Sarah Bowen’s owned/trained and ridden Yankey (Amfortas x Key), who out galloped his rivals in great style to win. He was always helping force the pace up the front of the field and went 2nd from half way before sweeping into a clear lead two furlongs out, but was hard ridden by Bowen inside the final furlong when challenged to land this victory. An eye catching run just three quarters of a length back in second from How Realee (Kotashaan x Lucky Diverse), he led from half way until he lost his chance on the final bend but came back with a strong run inside the final furlong and was gaining at the finish. Whilst Coffin Dodger (Dracula x Karakul) was always towards the rear, he stayed on dourly in the closing furlongs to take third.

Newbury, Friday 13th August The Royal Cavalry of
Oman Series Final Race Review by Paul Simmons
An impressive victory here from the Royal Cavalry of Oman’s smart mare Karte D’Or who was under top weight. She got the better of stablemate Hajes claiming a 1-2 victory for trainer Salim Al Hakmani. Karte D’Or (Djarni des Forges x Kaprice) was superbly ridden by Mr MSM Balushi, she was held up mid field throughout before pushing forward three furlongs out, she had a clear lead inside the final furlong and ran on strongly to win in fine style: she is definitely on the upgrade. Hajes (Vertigo x Al Muhabah) ran another brave race in defeat, he travelled well throughout and made smooth progress inside the final two furlongs to chase the winner. He was all out towards the line under David Probert but couldn’t get to the front. Whilst Genuinely At Risk (Doran x Djenuine) was held up at the back of the field and was under pressure with two furlongs to go, he briefly went second inside the final furlong before Hajes just got up by a nose to hold onto second.
