2012 REGISTRATIONS
Published 16th December 2011
ARO has today published its annual registration forms
and fees for the 2012 racing season.
Notable offers include a discount for 15 year old jockeys
looking to take out a license with ARO in 2012. Moreover,
the charge for registering horses with ARO has been
deliberately kept the same over the last 6 years, despite
significant increases in VAT & inflation.
Racing Manager, Antonia Newman, commented “ARO is very aware
of the challenging financial climate so we have tried to
keep our fees as affordable as possible. We offer a discount
to those people who register early and further reductions to
people taking out combined Owner / Trainer / Jockey
registrations. We are particularly keen to promote the
development of novice jockeys with ARO and hopefully the
heavily discounted rate available to 15 year olds will
encourage plenty of registrations from jockeys progressing
on to ARO from Pony Racing.”
ARO’s registration fees cover an action-packed fixture list
with racing almost every weekend between Saturday 5th May &
Saturday 29th September. Arabian Racing will be returning to
many familiar racecourses in 2012, including Taunton,
Hereford, Salisbury, Stratford and Fakenham. Huntingdon also
makes reappearance after a year’s absence in 2011, with new
fixtures confirmed at both Brighton and Uttoxeter. For the
first time in 2012, ARO members will also benefit from
reciprocal Thoroughbred Racing dates available across the UK
(dates to be confirmed by ARO in the New Year).
Registration forms for 2012 can be now be emailed. Save the
completed document to your computer and send to Amanda Smith
on info@aroracing.co.uk. Or by post to The ARO
Office, The Racecourse, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 7NZ.

CONGRATULATIONS TO GARY CAPEWELL
Published 8th December 2011
Congratulations to ARO Commentator, Gary Capewell, who
has been given 15 fixtures on the BHA racing circuit. Gary
has perfected his talent for calling them home at ARO
fixtures over the last 7 years, and fortunately for us, he
intends to keep doing so for the foreseeable future. Another
high-flying ARO Graduate!
2012 PROVISIONAL FIXTURE
LIST
Published 8th December 2011
The provisional fixture list
for ARO’s 2012 racing season has today been unveiled
(click
here to view),
including 13 full Arabian racemeetings and 9 single races to
be held on Thoroughbred cards at licensed tracks across the
UK
.
RACEDAYS
ARO’s season is due to
commence at Wolverhampton on Saturday 5th May,
thereafter returning to many familiar racecourses in 2012,
including Taunton, Hereford, Salisbury, Stratford and
Fakenham. Huntingdon also makes reappearance after a year’s
absence in 2011, with new fixtures confirmed at both
Brighton and Uttoxeter.
ARO Racing Manager, Antonia Newman commented,
“Whilst the dates listed here are subject to
change, ARO has achieved a fair geographical spread for most
trainers with fixtures in the South (Taunton & Salisbury),
East (Fakenham & Huntingdon), Central (Wolverhampton,
Hereford & Stratford), further North (Uttoxeter &
Nottingham), and for the first time in recent years, South
East (Brighton). We look forward in particular to a return
to Brighton with the raceday named in honor of the
Children’s Trust at Tadworth, who will again hold a mascot
race to raise funds for the charity. Other promotional
activities include a joint horseracing and VW car rally at
Uttoxeter in August and racing at Hereford for the Queen’s
Jubilee in June. ”
DUBAI INTERNATIONAL ARABIAN RACEDAY, NEWBURY
There are noticeable changes
to the fixture list this year, not least a provisional date
for Dubai International Arabian Raceday at Newbury
Racecourse on Sunday 23rd September. Whilst this
date remains subject to confirmation by long time Festival &
Arabian Racing Patron, HH Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, the
purpose of the move is to establish a climax to the British
Arabian Racing Season with the year’s champions crowned at
this final International racemeeting in September. For
trainers, the later date will also provide greater
opportunity to qualify horses for this high-status meeting.
THE SHEIKHA FATIMA BINT MUBARAK LADIES IFAHR CUP
Other important changes
include the inaugural running of The Sheikha Fatima Bint
Mubarak Ladies IFAHR Cup, a Purebred Arabian Handicap for
amateur lady riders on Lockinge Day at Newbury Racecourse
(Saturday 19th May). This
new series of 9 ladies races held all over the world is yet
another addition to the existing portfolio of HH Sheikh
Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nayhan Global Arabian Flat Racing
Festival. A prize fund of £20,000 has been confirmed by
Festival Director, Lara Sawaya - the highest prize available
for amateur lady riders but also for this grade and type of
Arabian race in the UK. Lara
Sawaya has furthermore confirmed a renewal of The Wathba
Stud Farm Cup in support of British breeders, which will
take place on Sunday 5th August.
THE PRESIDENT OF THE UAE CUP
Trainers are encouraged to prepare their
horses early, not only for the Ladies IFAHR Cup, but also
for a return to The Curragh Racecourse in May as part of the
prestigious President of the UAE Cup Series. ARO’s opening
racemeeting of the season due to take place at Wolverhampton
has been put on with this race in mind. Trainers will have
the opportunity to get runs into their horses before
targeting the Curragh (a conditions race over 1 mile for
horses rated 75+). Other races sponsored by Emirates
Equestrian Federation in 2012 include The Abu Dhabi Harwood
International Arabian Racing Stakes at Newmarket and The
President of the UAE Cup, UK Arabian Derby (Group 1 PA) at
Ascot; the date of which has yet to be confirmed.
2012 will see ARO racing almost every weekend with the
exception of just 4 weekend breaks between Saturday 5th
May & Saturday 29th September. Newbury Racecourse
continues to feature as the home of Arabian Racing with a
total of 5 single races programmed and of course Dubai
International Arabian Raceday in September. Owners &
trainers are requested to complete the relevant feedback
form (below) in order that Race Planning can initiate
proceedings after Christmas. We look forward to seeing you
all again next year!
2012 SPONSORSHIP
OPPORTUNITIES
Published 8th
December 2011
Whilst negotiations continue with ARO's lead sponsors in
2012, there are still many exciting opportunities for
individual & corporate sponsorship next year. Sponsorship
is hugely valuable to ARO and sponsorship
at a full Arabian racemeeting, of which there are 13, will
not only provide an excellent opportunity to promote your
company, but it will also allow you to give any important or
prospective clients and friends a great afternoon’s
entertainment in an informal yet vibrant atmosphere.
Unlike mainstream British racing, ARO is almost entirely
self-funded. We rely on attracting sponsorship from the UK
and abroad to deliver our growing fixture list. This is
especially important for the running of Arabian Racedays,
which we are all involved in and enjoy.
If you know of someone who may interested in
sponsoring a race with ARO, or if you would like to sponsor
with ARO yourself, please contact Antonia Newman on 01635
524445.

NEW RULING INTRODUCED BY
IFAHR
Published 6th January 2011
ARO would like to advise members of a new ruling introduced
by IFAHR (The International Federation for Arabian
Horseracing) during the 13th IFAHR General Assembly on
December 13th in Paris at which the UK was present.
A decision was made to
implement the following with regards to the future
registration of Arabian horses:-
All horses in Arabian
racing must be registered in a WAHO accepted stud book and
upon request parentage verified against the original (taken
at the first registration) blood sample or DNA sample from
both parents.
What does this mean for ARO
members?
This regulations resolves a
current security issue that is intended to safeguard the
purity of Arabian race horses. There might be cases where a
horse born has parents who were blood-sampled at the
original registration, and then DNA-sampled when this became
compulsory for parent verification. Alternatively, they may
have been DNA-sampled on more than one occasion. This new
rule makes it possible to verify the parentage against the
very first sample taken from the parents, regardless of
where these were taken or if it was blood or DNA.
