In 2009 ARO introduced a new initiative to aid young and inexperienced jockeys in gaining the race-riding experience required to progress into becoming a safe and successful professional jockey. Those who applied for a place on the programme were invited to attend an assessment day at the British Racing School, where top instructor Richard Perham put them through a series of exercises in order to establish whether they were suitable candidates. A total of 5 young jockeys were offered places with ARO trainers for the 2009 season, and were placed with host trainers in their local area. This year's candidates were Jack Sherwood, David Prichard, Adam Brook, Chris Dennington and Sam Clarke. Jack Sherwood & David Prichard are profiled below.
Jack Sherwood Jack was the leading Novice Rider and finished fourth in the Jockeys' Championship. He commented of the programme, "I had a great time this year Arab racing, it was one of the best learning experiences I could have had!"
